Pierre Jars founded the "Manufacture de Poterie Jars" in 1857, and received the Grand Prix at the 1900 Great Exposition.
He handed down his double mission to his descendants, who have carried on his ambition to make daily objects works of art, and make the useful beautiful.
His great-grandsons, Michel and Claude Yence, have carried the flame on into the third millennium. Like so many artists, and particularly ceramists, like the famous Frenchman Bernard Palissy before them, to start with they lived from hand to mouth.
Today they are very successful and look set to continue with their fabulous range of tableware including tea sets, plates, bowls, dishes and vases. Half of their production is exported to the rest of Europe, America and Asia. Famous names like Christofle, Yves Rocher, Fidji, Calvin Klein, Les Anysetiers du Roy, Genevieve Lethu, Dupont, Berger, Banania, Mariage Freres, etc., buy their works.
Jars craftsmanship leaves nothing to chance - nothing, that is, except the unique iridescence of colours in each piece. All articles are microwave and dishwasher friendly.
With each new collection, Jars improves its quest to strengthen the alliance between useful and beautiful, between delicacy and strength, between originality and tradition. The lines are pure, the decoration is intricate.
