It was a small, exquisite lacquer box coated in silver that inspired the creation of The Lacquer Collection.
The gift was presented to Robin Parsons, Chairman, and struck her as so unique that she began to research the availability of high quality lacquer products in the World.
As a designer of interiors products for prominent names including Harrods, Fortnum and Mason and even Bloomingdale's in New York, Robin recognised the potential for the lacquer products and enlisted the help of Managing Director and Graphic Designer, Will Goddard and financial manager Vivienne Lloyd to create a company called The Lacquer Collection Ltd.
"Our aim is to extend the collection to include other unique products from the Orient and the Far East".
Research for the collection took the team to the Far East, and in particular Vietnam, where the sheer beauty of the country and its people nurtured a passion for their products that can only come from knowing the heart and soul of the lacquerware's origins.
"We came to know the very heart of village life in our quest to find the best lacquer and the most talented craftspeople," said Robin.
"Whether we were sharing a meal with a family and their chickens on the floor of a village hut or trekking for miles to view a special pagoda, we knew that by embracing the Vietnamese culture we would find the right products and the right people to create a totally unique and exclusive collection of lacquerware, of a standard rarely seen."
