Behind the brand
Scottish cashmere is still at Brora’s heart, but every season their Founder & Creative Director, Victoria Stapleton creates a range of timeless clothing to build a complete wardrobe using only the finest fabrics, such as tweed, silk, wool and linen.
Established in 1993, Brora have steadily grown into a fully-fledged fashion label with our own distinctive viewpoint – highly individual, subtle, immensely wearable and mainly British made.
Victoria strongly believes in ‘made in Britain’ especially when the particular product is made so very well on our shores. All Brora cashmere is manufactured in Scotland using skills that have been passed down through generations of Scottish families.
Brora is such a personal business and has been such a passion of mine that somehow everyone has become involved. My late father was a wonderfully inspiring entrepreneur and my mother has immaculate taste, so many of the family have modelled and worked for Brora at some stage or other.
What sets Brora apart more than anything is the workmanship that goes into each and every piece, much of which is done by hand.
'The ethos of Brora is still the same almost 30 years on: to create beautiful fashion that is stylish yet timeless’ Victoria Stapleton, Founder & Creative Director
Brora has always been focused on ethical design and production, but they are learning from climate science to ensure they are taking full accountability for their entire supply chain, energy output and packaging, indeed all areas of the business that affect theur carbon footprint.
Brora chose to buy ‘carbon credits’ and use them to invest in a variety of projects that align most closely with the geography of their production line and their activities within that supply chain. For example, Brora’s cashmere is all woven, spun, dyed, and knitted in Scotland but the raw wool comes from goats in Mongolia so two of the projects we are financially supporting are a reforestation project in Scotland and a Grassland Conservation project in Mongolia.
Brora use mostly 100% certified organic cotton which means there are no hazardous chemicals or pesticides used. Their linen now has the dual appeal of being a naturally sustainable fabric choice which is produced by Brora and delivered to you by carbon neutral means.
